Praseodymium carbonates, with their Pr3+ 4f2 electronic configuration and unique green light absorption characteristics, have become key precursors for the preparation of special glass colorants, praseodymium yellow pigments, and magnetic materials, with their thermal decomposition products, Pr6O11, possessing special oxidative catalytic activity.
Chemical properties
- Solubility: Slightly soluble in water ( solubility at 25℃ ≈ 0.003 g/100mL), soluble in dilute acids (HCl, HNO3) and evolves CO2 vigorously.
- Thermal behavior: DTA shows a double endothermic peak for dehydration (150-250℃) and decomposition (400-500℃).
- Acid-alkalinity: water suspension pH ≈ 6.0-7.0
- Optical properties: characteristic absorption peaks in the visible light region (444nm, 468nm, 482nm)

Matters needing attention
- Moisture-proof packaging: needs to be sealed in a vacuum aluminum plastic bag.
- Store away from light: It is recommended to use amber glass containers.
- Temperature control: Storage temperature 15-30℃ for long term
- Isolation requirements: Store separately from strong acids, oxidizing agents.
